‘Yatri Sathi’ app launches bus, ferry ticket booking with QR code system

Passengers can now book tickets for government buses and ferry services through the upgraded ‘Yatrisathi’ app. After booking, users will receive a QR code, which can be scanned by conductors using handheld machines to issue physical tickets. This initiative aims to streamline the ticketing process, reducing cash handling and increasing efficiency.

The pilot phase covers 12 bus routes, including AC-39, AC-50A, AC-37A, V-1, S-10, S-23A, AC-2, AC-43, AC-40, AC-23A, EB-12, and S-66. The QR-based ticketing system is expected to be expanded to cover more routes. Ferry services under the transport department have also been integrated, allowing digital ticketing for water transport.

The app’s latest update also includes taxi and vehicle booking services. Users can book and pay directly through the app, which has undergone significant improvements in terms of user interface and functionality. These updates are aimed at providing a unified digital platform for all transport needs.

A major infrastructure upgrade will soon transform Kolkata’s bus stops. LED display boards showing real-time bus locations, estimated arrival times, and route details will be installed at all stops. This system is already operational in New Town and will be expanded across Kolkata within three months.

All government buses are equipped with GPS and Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD). The data from these devices will be linked to the LED boards and the ‘Yatrisathi’ app, enabling passengers to track buses in real-time and plan their journeys more efficiently. This technology integration aims to improve accuracy and reduce waiting times.

The transport department is also working to address complaints about buses skipping stops. Discussions with bus operators and conductors are underway to ensure that buses halt at all designated stops. Private buses are also set to be brought under the app-based ticketing system in the near future.
