A youth named Sanket Chatterjee was allegedly beaten to death in the Gouranganagar area of New Town late on Tuesday night after he protested the harassment of his live-in partner. According to local sources, Sanket and his partner had an argument, following which the woman left their residence alone.
On the road, she was allegedly subjected to eve-teasing by a group of unidentified young men. Sanket reportedly intervened when he saw the group harassing her. Eyewitnesses claim the men attacked him with bamboo sticks during the confrontation. He was critically injured in the assault and was later taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital.
Despite emergency treatment, he was declared dead. Police have started an investigation into the incident. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and efforts are underway to identify and locate the accused. No arrests have been reported yet.
