India has evacuated more than 1,700 citizens from Iran under Operation Sindhu amid ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the latest flight carrying 28 Indian nationals landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday night.
Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita received the passengers at the airport. He stated that the flight included Indian nationals from multiple states including Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. He also confirmed that three more evacuation flights from Iran are scheduled to take place within the next two to three days.
India launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate citizens stranded in conflict-affected areas of Iran and Israel. A total of 1,713 Indian nationals have been flown out of Iran so far. Evacuees are being brought home on special flights coordinated by the Indian government.
In Israel, airspace remains closed, making direct evacuation flights currently unfeasible. Indian nationals in Israel have been advised to register with the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv and proceed to the land borders with Jordan and Egypt using valid documents. These nationals will be airlifted once they have safely crossed into neighbouring countries.
According to Pabitra Margherita, 162 Indian nationals have already crossed into Jordan and will be repatriated within the next two days. The Indian government remains in contact with its citizens in both Iran and Israel to facilitate the remaining evacuations as part of Operation Sindhu.
