In the wake of the announcement of Panchayat elections in West Bengal, the state has witnessed a surge in violence, resulting in multiple casualties. Both the BJP and the Congress have accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of orchestrating the violence. Recent clashes between rival factions of the Trinamool Congress in a Bihar district have further aggravated tensions.
During the clash between two factions of the Trinamool Congress in Bihar's district, one activist was killed, and five others sustained injuries from gunfire. Trinamool leaders have pointed fingers at the BJP, while the police claim that the violence erupted within the Trinamool ranks.
The incident took place on the second day of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's rally in Cooch Behar district, where violent clashes broke out between the rival factions. One Trinamool worker lost his life in the firing, and the injured individuals have been hospitalized for treatment. The area, located near the Bangladesh border and accessible by boat, remains tense after the incident, with police presence attempting to maintain order.
Trinamool leaders have squarely blamed the BJP for the violence, while the police maintain that the clashes were internal within the Trinamool Congress. The issue of lawlessness in Bengal has reached the Supreme Court, even after additional security forces were deployed by the central government, as incidents of violence continue unabated.
