Late Wednesday night, a group of around 10 armed CPI (Maoist) Naxalites attacked a road construction site near Orsapaat village in Mahuadand police station limits of Latehar district. The attackers set fire to two vehicles, including a JCB machine, and shot dead Mohammad Ayub, a local resident who was working as the site supervisor (munshi) for the construction project.
According to local sources, the Naxalites reached the site at around 10 PM. They first torched the JCB and another vehicle stationed at the road construction location. The JCB was completely destroyed in the blaze. The group then proceeded to the house of Mohammad Ayub, forcibly brought him out, and shot him dead near his home. He was a resident of Orsapaat village and involved in overseeing the ongoing road work.
After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the site and began investigation. Under instructions from Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav, the entire area has been sealed off. A search and combing operation has been launched to trace the attackers. SP Kumar Gaurav confirmed that members of CPI (Maoist) were responsible for the attack. “Bhakpa Maovadi ke Naxaliyon ne is ghatna ko anjaam diya hai,” he stated.
Police officials are currently investigating the sequence of events and the motive behind the attack. Security arrangements have been intensified in the area, and teams are actively patrolling nearby forested zones and sensitive locations. The situation in the region remains tense but under control, as efforts continue to track down those involved in the incident.
