Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
A road accident on Basanti Highway near Bairampur Mor left 10 people, including a child, seriously injured on Sunday evening. According to police sources, a private four-wheeler was returning to Rajarhat from the Shakchar fair when its front tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming auto, severely damaging both vehicles and injuring all passengers in the auto.
Locals informed the authorities, and officers from the Bhangar Traffic Guard arrived at the scene. The injured were immediately taken to Nalmuri Hospital. As five victims were in critical condition, they were later shifted to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata for advanced treatment. The accident caused temporary traffic congestion on the highway, which was later cleared.
The Bhangar Traffic Guard and Chandaneswar Police Station have initiated an investigation into the incident. Both the private car and the auto have been seized for examination. Authorities are verifying whether the accident was solely due to the tyre burst or if other factors, such as speeding or road conditions, contributed. No official statements have been released regarding arrests or legal actions.
Basanti Highway has witnessed multiple accidents in recent months. On Panchami during Durga Puja, a motorcyclist lost control while allegedly trying to evade a police check and hit a pedestrian. The pillion rider, a minor, was thrown off the bike and died on the spot, while the biker and the pedestrian sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital.
