At least 11 people were killed in a devastating road accident on Monday morning after a car collided head-on with a cement mixer truck on the Kalyan–Ahilyanagar highway in Maharashtra. All the victims were occupants of the Eeco car, and the impact of the crash was so severe that the vehicle was completely reduced to mangled scrap.
The accident occurred in the Rayte area along the Kalyan–Murbad route in Thane district. According to police, the deceased include eight men and three women, among them two college students and a clerk employed at the Murbad Tehsildar’s office. The incident sent shockwaves through the local area due to the scale of the tragedy.
Police said the car was travelling from Kalyan towards Murbad when it collided with the oncoming cement mixer truck. The force of the impact destroyed both vehicles and left the passengers trapped inside the wreckage. Locals rushed to the scene after hearing the crash, but rescue efforts proved challenging due to the severity of the damage.
Emergency teams, along with police and local residents, worked extensively to extricate the victims and clear the site. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, while traffic on the highway came to a complete standstill for a prolonged period. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
