Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Following the seismic shift in West Bengal's political landscape, where the BJP took control of Nabanna, severe tremors are being felt inside the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). In a bid to prevent internal rebellion and manage political damage, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee convened a high-profile, emergency meeting with party councilors at her Kalighat residence on Friday.
Out of the 137 TMC councilors in the civic body, 110 attended the crucial huddle, while prominent leaders Tarak Singh and Debalina Biswas were conspicuously absent. The urgency of the situation became apparent when the monthly session of the KMC, scheduled for Friday afternoon, was abruptly cancelled on Thursday. While today was even more unprecedented, as for the first time in history, the monthly session was held at the Councilor's club as the main chamber was locked.
Adding fuel to the fire is the mounting crisis surrounding Mayor Firhad Hakim. Speculation has been rife within the municipal corridors that Hakim might resign from his mayoral post, causing administrative paralysis and widespread anxiety among the rank and file.
