The Kolkata Traffic Police will close the Sadananda Road post office at 8.30 pm on Thursday for around 12 hours to let the Kolkata Municipal Corporation complete its tedious process at the busy Kali Temple Road-Sadananda Road junction.
KMC is carrying out boring work to install a lift for the under-construction Kalighat Temple Skywalk project. The next round of shutdowns will be announced later depending on the situation on the ground, police said.
It won't be the first time this section has been closed, but it will be the longest time yet. Work began here on April 7, but the police ensured that blockades were only carried out outside office hours. Cops will also want to maintain sanitization of the entry from the CM's residence in Kalighat to the temple as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit the Kalighat temple on the occasion of Noboborsho.
Police said the roadblock was necessary when the drilling rig took up 5.5 meters of road space. A joint team from Tollygunge and Bhowanipore traffic guards has been asked to prepare a plan to implement this blockade.
“KMC has asked for a 12-14 day blockade. We have agreed to offer them 10 days,” said a senior officer in Lalbazar.
