In a proactive move, Kolkata Police cracked down on a network of illegal call centers engaged in duping US residents through bogus tech support services, resulting in the arrest of 12 suspects. Acting on reliable intelligence, the Anti Rowdy Squad of DD executed raids in the Kasba and Karaya police station areas, revealing the clandestine operations of fraudulent call centers operating without legitimate authorization. The initial raid targeted a premises on Picnic Garden Road in Kasba, where four individuals, including Subhdeep Sarkar alias Sunny and Mohammad Kishwar Danesh, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the illicit scheme.
Subsequent investigations led the police to another location on Miyajan Ostagar Lane in Karaya, where eight additional suspects were taken into custody. These individuals were reportedly orchestrating schemes to ensnare unsuspecting US citizens through various fraudulent tactics. Alongside the arrests, authorities seized crucial evidence including laptops, mobile phones, routers, and other pertinent items. A formal complaint has been lodged with the cyber police, with charges filed against all accused parties under relevant sections of the IPC, marking a significant step towards curbing cybercrime activities in the region.
