A peaceful neighbourhood turned tragic in Uttar Dinajpur district's Islampur when a long-standing land dispute between two local groups exploded into violence, claims the life of a 12-year-old girl. The clash in Jholjholi area under Islampur thana's Matikunda 2 no panchayat area started with bombs and gunfire allegedly targeting the home of Jahid Alam, a follower of one faction leader Rafiq Alam. His daughter Kausera Begum, an eighth-grade student, was shot during the attack and rushed to Islampur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The incident has left the entire area tense, with heavy police deployment to prevent further trouble. As per reports, the bitter rivalry over area control has been going on for years between Rafiq Alam and Noor Alam. Accusations points to Noor Alam's supporters carrying out the late-night assault on Jahid's house. As news spread, anger gripped the village, and today the locals caught one suspect and beat him before handing him over to police.
The injured man is now under treatment. Bengal Police have arrested four people so far, including two women, as they investigates the deadly fight.
