Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has announced a comprehensive train schedule to facilitate the lakhs of pilgrims expected at the Gangasagar Mela 2026. During a high-level press conference, railway officials confirmed that a total of 126 trains will operate on the Sealdah-Namkhana and Sealdah-Kakdwip sections to manage the heavy rush during the peak days of the fair. This includes the extension of several regular local trains to ensure seamless connectivity to the coastal areas.
Out of the total fleet, 23 are dedicated "Mela Special" galloping EMU trains that will run between January 12 and January 17, 2026. These special services are designed to skip smaller stations and reach the destination faster, starting from Sealdah South and Kolkata stations. The railways have prioritized the safety and convenience of devotees, ensuring that trains are available at frequent intervals to prevent overcrowding on the platforms.
To enhance the passenger experience, the Sealdah Division has also introduced improved digital ticketing facilities and reviewed M-UTS (Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System) operations. Special help desks, medical booths, and additional RPF/GRP personnel will be deployed at key stations like Lakshmikantapur, Kakdwip, and Namkhana. Emergency ambulances and drinking water facilities have also been arranged at these transit points to assist senior citizens and differently-abled pilgrims.
