A 13-member expert team visited Medinipur Medical College on Sunday to investigate the deaths of one mother and the critical condition of three others. The deaths have raised concerns about the potential role of a controversial saline solution in the fatalities. As of Monday morning, two of the remaining patients were on ventilators, with their condition described as critical. The Health Department has intervened, taking immediate action to manage the situation and ensure the patients’ well-being.

Following their visit, the experts have expressed the need for further investigation before drawing conclusions. They are currently awaiting the results of a drug test to determine the cause of the fatalities and the deterioration of the other patients’ health. A high-level meeting was held at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Monday, which lasted two hours. The specialists involved are awaiting detailed reports to better understand how the deaths occurred and why others have fallen critically ill.

The Health Department has taken proactive measures, including halting the use of Lingart Lactate and other specific drugs at Medinipur Medical College, pending the results of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are also reviewing all medical protocols in place at the hospital. Preliminary reports have been submitted, though the final comprehensive report is expected soon, which will clarify the situation.

To provide the patients with the necessary level of care, the Health Department has arranged for the three critically ill mothers to be transferred to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata via a green corridor. This step is intended to ensure they receive specialized treatment and to provide the best possible care. The investigation continues, with the Health Department focused on both patient recovery and determining the cause of the incident.
