A 13-year-old girl was rescued from Kolkata’s Jorabagan red-light area on Wednesday after being abandoned by her stepmother. According to reports, the stepmother brought the girl to the city in the morning, claiming they were going sightseeing. She was left at Park Circus with instructions to wait but was never picked up. After waiting for hours, the girl took a bus to Howrah Station and later wandered into Jorabagan.
A woman identified as Kohinoor Begum noticed the girl alone in Jorabagan and questioned her. Upon learning about the situation, local authorities, including the Child Protection Commission and Jorabagan Police Station, were informed. A formal complaint was lodged, and officials have taken charge of the child’s safety. Further investigations are underway to trace the stepmother and determine the circumstances of the abandonment.
Authorities are assessing whether the girl was at risk of trafficking or other forms of exploitation. Officials are working to confirm her identity, locate her family, and ensure necessary legal action. The case has raised concerns over child safety and the vulnerabilities of minors in urban areas.
