Tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir that were shut after last year’s Pahalgam terror attack have now reopened, signalling a further push to revive tourism in the Union Territory. Fourteen prominent sites, including Srinagar’s iconic Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden and the alpine meadow of Yousmarg, are once again welcoming visitors.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered the reopening following a detailed security assessment. Nearly 50 tourist locations were closed as a precaution after the April 22, 2025 attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, most of them tourists. Authorities said the latest decision comes after reviewing ground conditions and preparedness.
In the Kashmir division, destinations such as Yousmarg, Doodhpathri, Dandipora Park in Kokernag, Peer Ki Gali, Dubjan, Padpawan, Astanpora, Thajwas Glacier, Hung Park in Ganderbal, Wullar, Watlab and the tulip garden in Srinagar have reopened. In Jammu division, Devi Pindi in Reasi, Mahu Mangat in Ramban and Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar are also open again.
Some locations, including Gurez, Athwatoo, Bangus and Ramkund in Ramban, will reopen once snow clearance is completed. With this phase, a total of 42 tourist spots have resumed operations. Officials say improved security, better connectivity and the successful Amarnath Yatra have helped restore visitor confidence after the sharp decline that followed the Pahalgam attack.
