Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
In a historic moment for Indian cricket, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books by scoring the second-fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the young prodigy from Bihar reached his hundred in just 35 balls, setting a new benchmark as the fastest Indian to achieve this feat in IPL history. The record for the fastest century overall still belongs to Chris Gayle, who had taken only 30 balls.
Vaibhav’s masterclass came during Rajasthan Royals’ high-pressure chase of a daunting 210-run target against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. His blistering innings not only stunned the cricketing world but also played a pivotal role in reviving RR's IPL 2025 campaign after a difficult run of five consecutive losses.
Adding another feather to his cap, Vaibhav also became the youngest male cricketer in the world to score a T20 century, breaking the record previously held by Vijay Hari Zol. Zol had set the mark in 2013 at the age of 18. Vaibhav's achievement, at just 14, marks a new era of young talent stepping into the spotlight on the biggest stages.
Suryavanshi’s explosive innings included the fastest fifty of IPL 2025 as well, reaching the milestone in just 17 balls. His partner at the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal, also played a crucial knock, smashing 70 runs off 40 deliveries to ensure that Rajasthan Royals chased down the total in just 15.5 overs.
Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans had posted a strong total of 209/4, powered by an 84-run innings from Shubman Gill and a quickfire 50 from Jos Buttler. Despite the strong showing, the Titans were left helpless in front of Suryavanshi's brilliance.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable innings has not only kept Rajasthan Royals alive in the playoff race but also announced the arrival of a new sensation in Indian cricket. His fearless approach and maturity beyond his years are being hailed by fans and experts alike.
