At least 16 people lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh as severe rain and strong winds battered parts of the state on Thursday night. The intense weather led to fatal accidents and large-scale destruction across multiple districts, prompting urgent government action.
Taking swift cognizance, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the people through social media, assuring that the government was actively reaching out to those affected. He emphasized that the administration was fully equipped to handle the crisis and had already instructed departments to assess damages and provide immediate assistance.
According to official data, the fatalities were reported from six districts. Ayodhya recorded the highest toll with six deaths, followed by Barabanki with five, Amethi with two, and one each from Deoria, Basti, and Bahraich. Among the deceased were 11 women and three children. While two deaths were attributed to lightning strikes, most were caused by structures collapsing under heavy winds and rain, including tin sheds, walls, trees, and ceilings. In one tragic case, a trolley overturned, killing three individuals.
In his post on X, CM Yogi said, "Reports of storms, rain, and hail have been received from several districts in the state. However, there is no need to worry. The safety of every resident is the government's priority." He further directed district officials to promptly conduct surveys and initiate relief operations in all impacted areas.
The Chief Minister also instructed that immediate financial assistance be provided to families who suffered human or livestock losses. Additionally, officials have been tasked with ensuring the safe storage of wheat at procurement centres and reporting the extent of crop damage for swift compensation processes.
