Kolkata Police arrested 161 people on Holi for various offenses, including gang rape, drunk driving, public nuisance, and misbehavior with women. Officers were stationed at key intersections, neighborhoods, and 66 river ghats to prevent disruptions and maintain order. Police also seized 33.6 liters of illegally sold liquor, leading to multiple arrests. Apart from minor accidents, no major road mishaps were reported.
According to Lalbazar sources, a large number of arrests were linked to reckless driving under the influence of alcohol, traffic rule violations, and disorderly conduct in residential areas. Several individuals were detained for creating disturbances and engaging in obscene behavior in public places. Police confirmed that strict enforcement was carried out to prevent any escalation of lawlessness during the celebrations.
To ensure safety, additional forces were deployed in high-footfall zones, with real-time monitoring at major locations. Officers patrolled streets and kept strict surveillance on public gatherings. Authorities stated that all necessary measures were taken to maintain law and order, and legal action was initiated against the offenders.
