2 Bangladeshis kidnapped on pretext of Turkish passports, ₹3 lakh ransom paid

Two Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly kidnapped in the city on the pretext of arranging Turkish passports and visas, with ₹3 lakh reportedly extorted from them before police intervened. Acting on a complaint, officers from Techno City Police Station raided a hotel and rescued the two men. Two individuals, including one Bangladeshi national, have been arrested on charges of illegal confinement and forcible extortion. Both are expected to be produced before the Barasat court.

The rescued men, identified as Rajib Laskar and Junaid Miah, had arrived in Kolkata on valid visas a few days earlier and were reportedly planning to travel to Turkey. According to investigators, they had contacted a broker, Achintya Kumar Pal, for assistance with the visa process. Police claim that Humayun Kabir, one of the arrested accused and a Bangladeshi national, introduced them to Pal.

Subsequently, the two were allegedly called to a location under the pretext of arranging passports and were confined there. It is alleged that ₹3 lakh was demanded as ransom and transferred from a bank in Bangladesh to the accused. Even after receiving the money, the kidnappers reportedly demanded additional funds.

Police have begun interrogating the arrested individuals to ascertain the exact motive behind the alleged kidnapping. Investigators are also examining whether there was any financial dispute or collusion involved, and are probing the sequence of transactions linked to the case.
