2 dead, 15 injured after massive explosion rocks firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh

At least two people were killed and more than 15 injured after a massive explosion at a firecracker factory in Tonkkala on AB Road in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district on Wednesday. According to officials, six of the injured suffered critical burn injuries and were referred to hospitals in Indore for advanced treatment. The explosion caused severe damage to the factory building and triggered panic across the surrounding area.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast was so powerful that nearby houses shook from the impact and most parts of the factory structure collapsed immediately after the explosion. Residents stated that chaos spread rapidly in the locality following the incident, with stampede-like conditions reported near the factory premises. Local people also claimed that body parts and debris were scattered across nearby roads after the blast.

Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Firefighting operations and rescue efforts were launched simultaneously at the site. With the help of local residents, police personnel rescued injured workers trapped inside the factory and shifted them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities stated that the official death toll currently stands at two, although local residents expressed fears that the number of casualties could rise further.

Villagers in the area alleged that firecrackers were being manufactured using openly stored gunpowder and claimed that safety regulations were routinely ignored at the factory. According to local residents, complaints regarding alleged safety violations had been raised earlier before concerned authorities, but no effective action was reportedly taken. The allegations surfaced amid ongoing rescue and investigation operations at the site.

The incident also triggered anger among residents of nearby villages, with allegations raised against factory owner Anil Malviya. Local residents claimed that the factory operated with political protection and alleged that large quantities of explosive material had been lying openly at the premises since morning. Police and administrative officials continued investigation and site inspection activities following the explosion.
