A coal mine collapse in the Bodra area under Kulti police station limits in Asansol has left six people feared trapped in an illegal open-cast BCCL mine. The incident occurred when a sudden collapse of the coal seam buried the miners under debris.
Rescue teams have so far recovered four people, including two who died, one of whom was a woman. The remaining two rescued persons are in critical condition and have been admitted to Asansol District Hospital. Two more miners are feared trapped, and operations are ongoing using a poklain excavator to retrieve them.
Hundreds of people, including relatives of the victims, have gathered near the site. A large deployment of police and CISF personnel is present to manage the situation and support rescue efforts. The crowd is reported to be in deep distress over the tragedy.
