Malda district is abuzz with discussions surrounding the unexpected marriage of two girls, Poppy Mandal and Pratima Biswas. The unconventional ceremony took place at Hanta Kalibari temple, adjacent to the Medical College in English Bazar.
The girls exchanged vows, applied vermilion to each other, and exchanged garlands, pledging to live and die together. This same-sex marriage has become a focal point of curiosity in the region, with onlookers witnessing the event at the temple.
The union of Poppy and Pratima, who claim to have transitioned from a longstanding friendship to a romantic relationship, challenges societal norms. Despite initial disbelief from some quarters, the ceremony was witnessed by a gathering of people in the area.
