Two people were seriously injured in a road accident near Indira Bhavan in Salt Lake. The mishap occurred when two young men were traveling from City Center to Vikas Bhavan on a scooter. While attempting to overtake a bus, the scooter driver reportedly lost control and rammed into a divider at high speed.
The impact threw both riders off the vehicle, leaving them severely injured. Locals immediately alerted the police, and a Bidhannagar Traffic Police team reached the spot. With help from residents, the injured were rushed to Bidhannagar Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the scooter driver was in an inebriated state at the time of the crash. Police officials confirmed that his alcohol level was found to be significantly above the permissible limit. The scooter has been seized as part of the investigation, and authorities have ordered stricter night patrols and breathalyzer checks to curb rising accident cases in the city.
Residents of the area said accidents near Indira Bhavan have become frequent due to overspeeding vehicles and have urged the police to install speed breakers and maintain regular surveillance.
