Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Two constables in Kanpur, Deepak Chaudhary and Dharmendra Singh, have been suspended for attending the birthday celebration of Rohit Verma, the main accused in a recently busted sex racket. The incident came to light following a police operation on April 3, which exposed a network operating across 20 hotels and involving young women. Videos from the party, including footage of the constables celebrating with the accused, prompted immediate disciplinary action.
The sex racket came under investigation after a woman from West Bengal reported being lured to Kanpur under the pretext of employment and forced into prostitution. Rohit Verma, a YouTuber, and his associate Sahil allegedly beat a minor in Barra, as captured in multiple videos that surfaced after their arrests. Police confirmed that Rohit’s phone contained records of approximately 20 hotels used by the gang, though no women were found during raids. Sahil remains absconding.
DCP South Dipendra Nath Chaudhary stated that the two constables have been suspended pending investigation. The videos show them celebrating with Rohit, who has six criminal cases against him, including harassment, POCSO violations, sex racket involvement, theft, and receiving stolen goods. Police are examining the constables’ connections, as well as mobile phones, documents, and potential accomplices.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and are working to apprehend other suspects, including Sahil and a West Bengal-based agent referred to as “Dada from Kolkata.” Police also clarified that the birthday party video, though old, indicated serious misconduct by personnel tasked with maintaining law and order. Additional raids and investigations are being carried out to uncover further details of the racket and victims involved.
Separately, Kanpur police are probing a kidney racket involving Shivam Agrawal, alias Kaada, who allegedly facilitated 50 transplants for ₹50,000 per case. Interrogation revealed vague responses, and call recordings linked him to another agent in Delhi NCR. Officials stated that he would be taken into custody for a detailed inquiry, highlighting ongoing efforts against organized crime in the city.
