2 killed, around 20 injured after bus collides with tanker on Agra-Lucknow Expressway

At least two people were killed and around 20 passengers injured after a private sleeper bus collided with a tanker and caught fire on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district early Friday morning. Officials said the deceased were the bus driver and conductor. The accident took place near pillar number 46 under the Matsena police station area while the bus was travelling from Kanpur to Gurugram.

According to local authorities, the impact of the collision caused the double-decker bus to burst into flames shortly after crashing into the tanker. Panic spread among passengers as rescue operations began immediately after the incident. Emergency services, police personnel and fire brigade teams reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and worked to evacuate passengers from the burning vehicle.

City Magistrate Vinod Kumar Pandey said around 15 to 20 passengers sustained injuries in the accident. He stated that five injured persons were admitted to the Trauma Centre, while others were referred to hospitals in Shikohabad and Saifai for treatment. Some injured passengers were also taken to Firozabad Medical College and Saifai Medical College through ambulance services.

Officials said firefighters brought the blaze under control while police managed traffic movement on the expressway. Preliminary information indicated that local residents and passersby also assisted in the rescue efforts before emergency teams arrived at the location. Traffic on the expressway was temporarily disrupted due to the accident and later restored after the damaged vehicles were cleared.

Authorities have started an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision. Initial information suggested the crash occurred at high speed, although officials have not yet issued a final statement regarding the circumstances leading to the accident. Rescue and relief operations continued for several hours after the incident.
