A tragic incident unfolded in Diara village under Madhyamgram police station on Wednesday afternoon when 20-year-old Rishab Kundu drowned in a canal while attempting to retrieve a football. Rishab and his friends were playing football in a nearby field when the ball accidentally fell into the canal. In an effort to recover the ball, Rishab entered the water but slipped and drowned. Despite the immediate attempts of his friends to rescue him, they were unable to save him from the strong current.
Upon receiving the distress call, police from both Rajarhat and Madhyamgram police stations rushed to the scene. Rajarhat police were the first to arrive and brought in a diver to assist with the search. After initial efforts, Madhyamgram police took over the operation, continuing with the search efforts. The police have since expanded their operation, deploying more resources to locate Rishab’s body.
Local residents expressed frustration over the delay in the arrival of a diver from Madhyamgram police, citing that the delay hindered the search efforts. The recovery operation remains ongoing as of Thursday morning, but Rishab's body has not yet been recovered. The incident has left the local community shaken, and authorities are working tirelessly to locate and retrieve the body from the canal.
