Bengal Govt declares holidays on Feb 13 & 14, long weekend ahead
Sealdah Court is under heavy security on Saturday, with 200 police officers deployed ahead of a crucial verdict. The deployment includes two Deputy Commissioners (DCs), three Assistant Commissioners (ACs), eight Inspectors, 15 Sub-Inspectors (SIs), 20 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), 55 women police officers, and 80 constables. These officers are stationed both inside and around the court premises to ensure law and order during the high-profile case.
In addition to the large deployment, barricades have been set up across the court premises and at the entrance, effectively controlling access to the building. The security measures are in place as the court prepares for the verdict in the RG Hospital case, which is set to be announced around 2:30 PM. This case involves the rape and murder of a female doctor from RG Hospital, and the lone accused, a civic volunteer, is currently held at Presidency Jail. The accused will be brought to the court for the proceedings.
Since November 11, the trial process has been ongoing, and the verdict marks the culmination of a five-month-long process. The case has drawn significant attention, and the high security around the court is a reflection of the importance of maintaining peace and order. Officers are stationed strategically to monitor crowd movement, and backup forces are on standby to respond to any potential issues. The arrangements are designed to ensure the verdict is delivered without disruptions.
