Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Concern has gripped Cooch Behar just days before the first phase of polling, after 24 security personnel deployed for election duty fell ill. The incident occurred in the Tufanganj subdivision, where the jawans were stationed as part of poll preparations.
According to initial reports, the affected personnel, belonging to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, began experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain and vomiting shortly after consuming food on Wednesday afternoon. The sudden onset of illness among multiple individuals triggered immediate concern among local authorities. All affected jawans were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. While 10 personnel were discharged after primary care, 14 continue to remain under medical observation. Doctors have indicated that the symptoms point towards suspected food poisoning, though detailed tests are being conducted to confirm the exact cause.
The administration has launched an investigation into the source of the contamination, including testing of food and drinking water. The incident has raised concerns over health and safety arrangements for security forces ahead of elections, although officials have stated that the condition of the jawans is currently stable.
