Tragedy struck on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway in Maharashtra's Buldhana district as a private bus carrying 33 passengers caught fire, resulting in the death of at least 26 people, including three children.
The bus, en route from Nagpur to Pune, met with an accident around 1:30 am.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the driver, who survived, mentioned that the bus overturned after a tire burst, leading to the ignition. The injured were promptly taken to Buldhana Civil Hospital for treatment.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed condolences and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh for each victim's family, to be provided from the CM's Relief Fund. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his grief and offered condolences for the tragic incident.
