26 more Bangladeshis shifted to Jalpaiguri holding centre amid statewide crackdown

Authorities have tightened security at holding centres across Jalpaiguri district after a total of 47 Bangladeshi nationals were brought there in two separate groups as part of an ongoing statewide operation against alleged illegal Bangladeshi nationals in West Bengal. The detainees are currently being housed at designated holding facilities while administrative and legal procedures continue under police supervision.

According to police sources, 10 Bangladeshi nationals had been housed at the same holding centre a few days earlier. Of them, nine have since been sent back across the border to Bangladesh, while one individual remains under treatment at a hospital in Jalpaiguri due to health-related issues. Authorities have placed the holding centre complex under strict surveillance and enhanced security arrangements.

Meanwhile, 26 additional alleged illegal Bangladeshi nationals were transported by bus from the Basirhat border area and temporarily accommodated at the holding centre established in Phatapukur in Rajganj. The group comprises 15 women, seven children and four men. Security has been strengthened at the facility as officials continue processing the detainees in accordance with established procedures.
