A gruesome murder in Bihar’s capital Patna has sent shockwaves across the city, raising serious concerns about public safety and law enforcement. A 28-year-old woman, Sanjana Kumari, was brutally stabbed and burnt alive in her rented flat in the Anandpuri area under SK Puri police station late Thursday night.
According to police sources, Suraj Kumar, a close acquaintance and native of Muzaffarpur, is the prime accused in this horrific crime. The incident unfolded between 1 and 3 a.m., when Suraj visited Sanjana's flat, reportedly after a personal dispute. The argument escalated to deadly violence when Suraj allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Sanjana multiple times on her neck, stomach, and back, leaving her grievously injured and bleeding.
In a chilling attempt to destroy evidence and ensure death, the accused is believed to have detached the gas cylinder pipe and used the leaking gas to set Sanjana on fire, burning her body beyond recognition. Suraj then escaped the scene, taking with him Sanjana’s mobile phone, laptop, and flat keys, according to the FIR.
Sanjana was alone at home at the time of the incident. She hailed from Sakra in Muzaffarpur and had recently cleared the CGL examination. She was scheduled to join her government job next month, making her murder even more tragic. Her father is a farmer, and her younger brother is currently undergoing sub-inspector training in Rajgir.
The incident came to light when the housemaid arrived in the morning and found the burnt body. She raised an alarm, and locals immediately informed the police. Upon checking the building’s CCTV footage, authorities identified Suraj Kumar fleeing the scene with a backpack. The last mobile locations of both Sanjana and Suraj have been traced to East Champaran, and a search is currently underway.
The police have roped in the forensic team to gather evidence, and an in-depth investigation is ongoing. While the exact motive remains unclear, officials suspect a personal dispute as the immediate trigger. The SK Puri police have assured the public of swift action and are treating the case with utmost seriousness.
