2nd Hooghly Bridge to remain closed from 6 am to 2 pm on Sunday 23rd Nov

2nd Hooghly Bridge to remain closed from 6 am to 2 pm on Sunday 23rd Nov

Kolkata’s critical transportation link, the Vidyasagar Setu (popularly known as the Second Hooghly Bridge), is scheduled for a complete closure to all vehicular movement this coming Sunday, November 23. The closure will be enforced for a 8-hours period, starting at 6:00 AM and lasting until 2:00 PM, to allow for essential major repair and maintenance activities. The Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) are slated to undertake several crucial tasks during this shutdown window. These include the repairing and rehabilitation of the bridge including replacement of stay and holding down cables and bearings etc.

These maintenance efforts are necessary to ensure the structural integrity and long-term operational safety of the massive cable-stayed bridge. In anticipation of significant traffic disruption, the Kolkata Police issued a detailed traffic advisory outlining the necessary diversions. The West bound all types of vehicles, coming along AJC Bose Road from Zeerut Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Turf View via at grade road towards Hastings Crossing to avail St. Georges gate Road - Strand Road - Howrah Bridge or to take right turn from Hastings Crossing for K.P. Road.

Furthermore, West bound all types of vehicles, coming along K.P. Road from J&N Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hastings Crossing to avail St. Georges gate Road - Strand Road - Howrah Bridge. East bound all types of vehicles, coming along CGR Road from Khidderpore side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Hastings Crossing to take left turn to avail St. Georges Gate Road -Strand Road-Howrah Bridge. All types of vehicles of K.P. Road, availing Vidyasagar Setu via ramp at Y-Point near Ghora Pass, will also be diverted from Y- Point on K.P. Road towards 11 Furlong Gate to avail KP Road - Red Road for Howrah Bridge.
