Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Kolkata Police announced on Thursday that major repair and rehabilitation work is scheduled to be carried out on the Vidyasagar Setu (Second Hooghly Bridge). Consequently, the bridge will be completely closed to all vehicular traffic on Sunday morning, effective from 6:00 AM until 2:00 PM. During this eight-hour window, the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) will undertake critical maintenance, including the replacement of the bridge's stay cables, holding-down cables, and bearings.
According to the Kolkata Police, no vehicles, including those on the ramps, will be permitted to cross the bridge during the repair period. This essential closure necessitates the implementation of temporary traffic diversions across several key routes in the city to manage the flow of vehicles usually crossing the river. These temporary arrangements are designed to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
The Police detailed the specific diversion routes: Vehicles traveling westbound from AJC Bose Road will be diverted from Turf View towards Hastings Crossing, leading them onto St George Gate Road, Strand Road, and ultimately towards the Howrah Bridge. Similarly, eastbound vehicles coming from Circular Garden Reach (CGR) Road will also be diverted from Hastings Crossing towards Howrah Bridge. Furthermore, traffic approaching the Vidyasagar Setu from KP Road will be diverted from the Y-Point towards the Eleven Furlong Gate and then routed via KP Road and Red Road towards the Howrah Bridge. The police added that additional main routes may be diverted if necessary.
