Commuters will face major traffic disruptions this coming Sunday, November 2, as the vital Vidyasagar Setu (Second Hooghly Bridge) is scheduled for a complete, eight-hour closure. The Kolkata Police has issued a notification confirming that the bridge will be entirely shut down from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM to allow for urgent repair and maintenance work.
Commuters approaching the Setu from various entry points, including AJC Bose Road, K.P. Road, Circular Garden Reach Road (CGR Road), and areas around Khidderpore, will be heavily impacted. To manage the inevitable congestion, the Kolkata Traffic Police have put a comprehensive diversion plan into effect.
Vehicles that would normally use the Vidyasagar Setu to cross the Hooghly River will now be rerouted. The primary alternative route for all traffic will be the Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu) or the Nivedita Setu, depending on their final destination. Diversions will be enforced at key junctions like Turf View, Hastings Crossing, and 11 Furlong Gate.
