Three individuals were arrested from MG Road under Burrabazar Police Station late last night, and two semi-automatic pistols, four empty magazines, and 17 rounds of ammunition were seized. The weapons were concealed inside the air filter chamber of a white Toyota Etios bearing registration number UP 14CK 0837. The vehicle was jointly possessed by the arrested individuals, identified as Santosh Sahani (37), son of late Ganga Sahani, from Awarapur, Awarakol, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh; Jitendra Kumar (38), son of late Shyamlal, from Awarakol, PO Pali, Awarakol, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh; and Manoj Kumar (46), son of Rajendra Prasad, from Tajopur, Mau, Uttar Pradesh.
The seized firearms include one 9mm semi-automatic pistol and one 7mm semi-automatic pistol, along with four empty magazines and 17 rounds of ammunition. A case has been registered under STF PS Case No 03 dated 08.02.25 under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25(1A), 25(6), 25(8), 29, and 35 of the Arms Act. The accused were taken into custody and will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Calcutta, today during court hours.
The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police is conducting further investigations into the origin of the firearms and the intent behind their transportation. The Toyota Etios and the recovered weapons have been sent for forensic examination. Authorities are verifying the backgrounds of the arrested individuals and checking for any existing criminal records. Efforts are ongoing to determine whether there are inter-state connections related to arms smuggling or illegal firearm distribution.
