The investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, close aide of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, intensified on Thursday after police detained three individuals in connection with the case. A Special Investigation Team led by the CID Inspector General has been formed to investigate the murder in Madhyamgram. Police also recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime nearly four kilometres away from the spot where the attack took place.
According to police sources, Chandranath Rath was travelling in a car along with another individual identified as Mintu at the time of the shooting. Sources said Mintu allegedly hid after noticing the armed attackers approaching the vehicle. Investigators are examining eyewitness statements and evidence collected from the scene as part of the ongoing probe. Police officials are also interrogating the three detained suspects at Madhyamgram police station.
West Bengal Police have recovered live rounds and spent cartridges from the crime scene. Investigators also seized a four-wheeler allegedly connected to the incident and suspect that its number plate had been tampered with. Police said forensic examination of the recovered evidence and questioning of witnesses are continuing as part of the SIT investigation into the murder case.
