In Chandanagar, Hooghly district, the bodies of three family members were discovered at their home under mysterious circumstances late Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as Bablu Ghosh (62), his wife Pratima Ghosh (46), and their 13-year-old daughter. The bodies of the wife and daughter were found lying on the bed, while Bablu Ghosh’s body was found hanging from a noose inside the house.
According to police reports, Bablu Ghosh previously worked in a tin factory and later operated a Toto auto-rickshaw. Recently, he had started a small business from his home, which was financed through a loan amounting to several lakhs of rupees. The police have sent all three bodies for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Bablu Ghosh may have inflicted fatal injuries on his wife and daughter using an iron rod before hanging himself. ACP Suman Bandopadhyay of the Chandanagar Police Commissionerate confirmed that the mother and daughter’s bodies were found on the bed with signs of injury, while Bablu Ghosh’s body was hanging from a ceiling fan in the same residence. The police investigation is ongoing.
The incident has raised concerns following recent similar occurrences in nearby areas. In recent weeks, cases involving multiple family members found dead under suspicious circumstances have been reported in Kolkata’s Tengra and Kasba localities. Additionally, a case in Panchkula, Haryana involved the deaths of seven family members under circumstances related to financial distress.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and awaiting forensic reports to provide definitive conclusions on the cause and sequence of events in this case. The police have not ruled out any angle and are examining all possible motives, including the financial situation of the family.
