Full state honors for Ratan Tata, one day mourning announced in Maharashtra
Three civil service aspirants died on Saturday after the basement of a building housing Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, was flooded following heavy rain. The victims, identified as Tania Soni (25), Shreya Yadav (25), and Nevin Dalwin (28), were trapped in the basement when it rapidly filled with water.
A criminal case has been registered, and two individuals have been detained. Senior police officer M Harshavardhan stated, "We are committed to a thorough investigation and finding out the truth. Our forensic teams are on-site collecting evidence."
The Delhi Fire Department received a call around 7 pm reporting the flooded basement and the possibility of trapped individuals. Upon arrival, rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), conducted a search operation, recovering the bodies of the three students.
The basement, which housed a library, became inundated swiftly, trapping several students. Floating furniture obstructed the rescue efforts, and ropes were used to evacuate those trapped. The incident sparked protests from students, who criticized the authorities for the tragic deaths, with demonstrations continuing into Sunday.
