3 killed in chain accident on NH-12 in Raiganj after dumper crash and ambulance collision

Three people were killed in a tragic chain accident early Monday morning on National Highway 12 in the Mahadevpur area of Rupahar under Raiganj police station limits. The incident began when a dumper lost control and rammed into the rear of a paddy-laden truck, triggering a sequence of collisions that ultimately led to multiple casualties and injuries.

According to police and local inputs, the dumper driver died on the spot due to the impact of the initial crash. Soon after the accident, emergency services were alerted and an ambulance from Gazole reached the site. Meanwhile, another ambulance had already transported the critically injured dumper driver towards Raiganj Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

However, while returning, that ambulance was struck from behind by a speeding trailer. The impact caused the ambulance to lose control and veer off, hitting several pedestrians on the road. Multiple people were injured in the incident, and despite efforts to save them, two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to three. The incident has raised concerns over road safety and traffic management on the busy highway.
