Three residents of Madhayipur village in Old Malda died in a road accident at Rashidpur under Buniadpur in South Dinajpur on Sunday evening. They were travelling in a Bolero car to watch a football match at Thengapara in Gangarampur when the vehicle met with an accident before reaching the destination. The incident occurred while they were on their way in the late afternoon, and all three occupants died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old student Asiq Sheikh, son of Kamal Sheikh and Rozina Bibi, who was their only child; Ejazul Sheikh (34), and Amir Sohel (31). Both Ejazul and Amir were married and each leaves behind a wife, a minor son, and a minor daughter. All three victims were from the same village, and their sudden deaths have left their families in mourning.
The accident has cast grief across the Madhayipur area of Sahapur in Old Malda, where the victims belonged. Neighbours and relatives gathered at their homes after hearing of the deaths. The bodies were later brought back to the village, and arrangements for the last rites were underway.
