Panic gripped parts of Howrah after three live bombs were recovered from the Ramkrishnapur–Mallickghat area near the Ganga, a location known for heavy public movement. The recovery, just ahead of the Assembly elections, raised immediate security concerns, prompting swift action by police to secure the area and prevent any untoward incident.
According to police inputs, suspicious objects were spotted near the ghat, following which personnel from Howrah Police Station rushed to the spot. During a search operation, three live bombs were recovered from the area. Given the location’s regular evening crowd and proximity to a busy riverfront, authorities acted quickly to avoid a potential disaster.
The area was immediately cordoned off, with people moved to a safe distance and vehicular movement temporarily halted. Teams from the Criminal Investigation Department and the bomb disposal squad were called in, who carefully retrieved the explosives and transported them for safe defusal under tight security.
Normalcy was restored after the operation, but the incident has raised serious questions about how explosives reached such a sensitive and crowded location. With elections approaching, concerns over security preparedness and the possibility of unrest have intensified, prompting calls for heightened vigilance across the region.
