BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Tension gripped Shivnagar late Thursday night after a dispute between two neighbours spiralled into violent clashes, turning the area into a virtual battlefield. Police from Farakka station rushed to the spot on receiving information but were met with unexpected resistance.
According to reports, bombs were hurled at the police as soon as they reached the scene. At least three policemen sustained serious injuries in the attack and were rushed to hospital for treatment. The sudden assault spread panic across the neighbourhood, leaving residents terrified.
However, the violence did not stop with the attack on the police. Locals have accused the force of going beyond their mandate while trying to control the situation. Allegations surfaced that officers entered houses of one of the parties, vandalised property, beat family members, and forcibly picked up several people.
The dual narrative of bombs targeting the police and counter-allegations of police excesses has left Shivnagar tense and divided, with fear and mistrust running high in the community.
