Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized approximately 31 kilograms of cannabis from Panskura Railway Station in East Midnapore district on Tuesday night. One individual has been arrested in connection with the seizure, and further investigation is underway to trace the broader drug trafficking network.
According to police officials, the contraband was recovered from two trolley bags containing a total of 29 packets. The bags had raised suspicion among on-duty railway personnel, prompting a detailed search that led to the discovery of the narcotic substance. The cannabis was immediately seized following the operation.
Addressing a press conference, Mithun Kumar De, Senior Railway Police official of the Kharagpur division, confirmed the arrest and stated that the accused is being interrogated to gather crucial information about the source and intended destination of the consignment, as well as other individuals involved in the trafficking chain.
Police officials further stated that the arrested individual will be produced in court on Wednesday, and remand will be sought for detailed questioning. Authorities are also examining possible inter-state links and routes used for transporting narcotics, as enforcement agencies continue to intensify surveillance and action against drug smuggling activities in the region.
