A high-tension wire snapped in Gursahaiganj, Kannauj, injuring 38 residents, including children and women. The incident was triggered by heavy rains, leading to an electric shock that caused several individuals to lose consciousness. Seven victims required hospitalization, while two critically injured were referred to a government medical college for further treatment.
Local authorities, including SDO Brajesh Kumar Saroj, explained that the power line predated residential development, which has surged in the area over the last 15 years. Residents had built homes directly beneath the aging power line. Following the incident, the local power distribution company has agreed to relocate the 11,000-KV line to a safer location, with the relocation set to commence after the monsoon season.
This was the third incident of wire snapping in the densely populated area within a month, raising concerns among residents about safety and maintenance. The district magistrate stated that the situation is under investigation, and immediate action will be taken to prevent future incidents. Local residents have expressed fears for their safety, with one victim's family stating, “We cannot live like this.”
