Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
A 38-year-old man in Kerala's Malappuram has tested positive for Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), health officials confirmed on Wednesday. The patient, who had recently returned from Dubai, exhibited symptoms and was admitted to the Government Medical College hospital in Malappuram.
His samples were tested, confirming the infection. Health Minister Veena George stated that the patient had been isolated at home upon his return to Kerala and had followed precautionary measures.
A district health official provided further details, noting that the patient initially sought treatment at a private hospital before being transferred to Manjeri Medical College, where doctors suspected Mpox. His samples were sent to Kozhikode Medical College for testing.
Mpox, a viral illness related to smallpox, is characterized by skin rashes, fever, and flu-like symptoms. It spreads through close skin-to-skin contact and can be self-limiting, though in some cases, it can be fatal.
