A tragic road accident in Singur’s Ratanpur area on National Highway 19 claimed the lives of four members of the same family and left five others injured after their vehicle collided with a stationary dumper early Friday morning. The group was returning from Gaya after performing pind daan rituals when the accident occurred.
According to police and family sources, a group of 10 people from the Dankuni area had travelled together to Gaya for the religious ceremony. While returning home, the vehicle reportedly lost control in the early hours and rammed into the rear of a parked dumper on the roadside stretch near Singur, causing severe damage to the car.
All 10 occupants, including the driver, sustained critical injuries and were immediately rescued by locals and police. They were rushed to Singur Trauma Care Centre, where doctors declared four persons dead on arrival. The injured were later shifted to Serampore Walsh Hospital for advanced treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Paritosh Kirtaniya, Kajal Kirtaniya, Phuli Mukherjee and Mithu Bag, all residents of the Dankuni police station area. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident, while the damaged vehicle has been seized for inspection.
