A tragic road accident in Chhapra, Bihar, claimed the lives of four people and left six others seriously injured early Wednesday morning after a pickup vehicle carrying members of an orchestra party overturned and was hit by a truck. The victims were returning to Ballia in Uttar Pradesh after performing at a wedding when the incident occurred near Dr. PN Singh Degree College on the outskirts of the city.
According to preliminary information, the pickup van reportedly lost control and overturned on the road. Moments later, a truck approaching from behind rammed into the already overturned vehicle, leading to a devastating collision. The force of the impact severely damaged the vehicle, complicating rescue efforts.
Police personnel reached the spot promptly after receiving information and carried out rescue operations, shifting the injured to Chhapra Sadar Hospital. Doctors declared four individuals dead on arrival, while the injured are undergoing treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition. All the victims are said to be residents of Ballia.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with initial findings pointing towards overspeeding as a possible cause. The truck driver fled the scene along with the vehicle, and a search operation is underway to trace him. The accident also caused temporary traffic congestion in the area, prompting renewed concerns among locals about road safety.
