Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Four senior Trinamool Congress leaders—MPs Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad, Shatabdi Roy, and MLA Madan Mitra—fell ill during the party’s annual July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally held at Dharmatala. The incident occurred due to high temperatures and humidity in the area. All four leaders were escorted off the stage and taken to the medical camp on-site before being shifted to SSKM Hospital for further treatment.
Hospital sources confirmed that Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad, and Shatabdi Roy were discharged after receiving primary medical care and left for their residences in personal vehicles. Madan Mitra, however, was admitted and remains under observation. According to attending doctors, the leaders were affected by the weather conditions, which included extreme heat and elevated humidity levels.
The Martyrs’ Day rally, organised by TMC every year on July 21, was held under a clear sky this year with no rainfall, unlike typical monsoon patterns. A medical camp had been set up near the main stage to provide immediate assistance to attendees and leaders. The four leaders began feeling unwell toward the end of the rally and were moved for medical attention promptly.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was updated on the situation and took stock of the health status of the hospitalised leaders. Party sources said she extended wishes for their speedy recovery and asked officials to coordinate necessary medical care for all affected leaders.
