Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
Tragedy struck at a cloth godown in Ghusuri, Howrah, when the roof of the aging structure suddenly collapsed, trapping four workers inside. The incident occurred at an old godown on JN Mukherjee Road late at night, as the workers were asleep, leaving them no time to react.
Rescue operations commenced immediately, led by Howrah City Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathi. Firefighters and disaster management personnel rushed to the scene to clear the debris and locate the victims. Despite their swift response, all four workers were pronounced dead.
One worker, who was initially rescued and rushed to Howrah District Hospital, was declared dead on arrival. The other three were found after hours of tireless efforts from the rescue teams. The identities of the deceased workers have not been released at this time.
Preliminary investigations point to the deteriorating condition of the godown as the likely cause of the collapse. Authorities are conducting a thorough probe into the incident to confirm the exact reasons behind the structural failure.
