In a significant administrative move ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, 46 police officers have been transferred in Cooch Behar district, including the officers-in-charge of five key police stations. The reshuffle is part of pre-election measures to ensure smooth and impartial conduct of the polls.
District Superintendent of Police Sandeep Karra stated that the transfers were carried out in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines and established rules prior to elections. The move is being described as a routine administrative exercise aimed at maintaining transparency and neutrality in the electoral process.
As part of the changes, Ajit Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Sahebganj police station, has been transferred to Boxirhat, while Nakul Roy will take over at Sahebganj. Bishwajit Mallick of Ghokshadanga has been assigned to Kuchlibari police station, and Ashraf Alam has been moved from Kuchlibari to Ghokshadanga. Suniti Subba from Dinhata Women’s Police Station has been shifted to Haldibari, with Rohita Lama from Mathabhanga replacing her.
Additionally, Ajay Roy has been given charge of Nishiganj outpost, and Chitta Pal of Kotwali police station has been appointed as the District Control Room in-charge. The district police administration indicated that further adjustments, if required, will be made in line with election-related directives.
